WHICH GRADE LEVELS DOES SAINT LUKE SERVE?
Pre-School, Kindergarten, Grades 1-8

WHEN IS SCHOOL IN SESSION
The school day begins at 8:45 a.m.and ends at 3:15 p.m.
Supervision begins on the Melrose playground at 8 a.m. and students enter the building at 8:30 a.m.
Students are dismissed at 3:15 p.m. and are supervised on the playground until 3:30. Students who have not been picked up by 3:30 continue under supervision in aftercare.  Students who are enrolled in the half-day PreSchool or Kindergarten programs are picked up from their classrooms after the class eats lunch.

IS THERE EXTENDED CARE FOR CHILDREN?

Before School Care Saint Luke provides supervised before school care from 7:00-8:00 AM on regular school days. There is an additional cost per hour, per child for this service. From 8:00 until 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting) the children are on the playground with a teacher.

After School Care Saint Luke provides after school care of children until 6:00 p.m. on regular school days. The children are supervised by regular staff members. There is an additional cost per hour, per child for this service.

DOES SAINT LUKE PROVIDE HOT LUNCH?
A Hot Lunch Program is available to students from Pre-School through Grade 8. Lunches are nutritionally balanced and include a soup of the day, meat portion, starch portion, vegetable or salad, bread and dessert. Students may substitute a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the entrée. Students pay for lunches on a monthly basis. Menus for each month are send home a week before the first of each month.

WHAT MAY CHILDREN WEAR TO SCHOOL?
Students at Saint Luke Academy wear uniforms (khaki slacks/skort/shorts, blue chambray shirt or light blue collared knit shirt, navy cardigan) during the school day and to school sponsored events.

IS THERE FINANCIAL AID?
Financial Aid is available to students who demonstrate financial need. Contact the principal for information.

DOES SAINT LUKE HAVE A SPORTS PROGRAM?
Saint Luke participates in interscholastic sports (Lutheran School League) and fields teams in cross country, soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball. Students also participate in bowling and track invitational events.

DOES SAINT LUKE ASSIGN HOMEWORK?
Saint Luke students normally receive homework every night, ranging from 10 minutes in the primary division to 45-60 minutes in the upper division. Reports and projects require additional time to be divided over a period of days or weeks.
No classroom homework is assigned for nights on which students have an event at school, over holidays or during vacations.

DO STUDENTS HAVE RECESS?
All students in Saint Luke Academy have an outdoor play period at some point during the day (weather permitting). Physical Education classes in the gym do not take the place of the outdoor recess.

WHAT IS THE RACIAL MAKEUP OF THE SCHOOL?
Saint Luke is proud of its racial, ethnic and economic diversity. Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are taught to respect other traditions as they enjoy their own.

DO I HAVE TO BE LUTHERAN TO ATTEND SAINT LUKE?
Saint Luke accepts students from many different Christian denominations and supports their participation in the worship life of their home congregations.
