Geography Club is open to students in Grades 4-8. Students engage in a variety
of activities and participate in the annual Geography Bee.
Math Club is open to students in Grades 1-4. Students participate in enrichment
activities, games and puzzles appropriate to their achievement level in the
subject.

Recorder ensembles offer students in Grades 5-8 the opportunity for instrumental instruction, ensemble practice and performance experience. Students study and perform on soprano, alto, tenor and bass instruments. Ensembles play for worship services; advanced ensembles also plays for occasional off-campus events.
History Fair gives students in Grades 6-8 experience in working on long-term academic projects after school hours. Students are guided through in-depth primary source research and project development for entry in local, regional and national levels of competition. Students may work on research papers, performances, historical exhibits or documentary videos.
The Service Club is composed of 7th and 8th grade students who assist with service projects before and/or after school and on weekends.
Walther League offers students in grades 6-8 opportunities for fun and fellowship, sponsoring trips, holiday parties and other social gatherings and events.
SAINT LUKE SCHOLARS
The Saint Luke Academy honors program in Religion is designed to provide gifted and interested students with the opportunity to encounter and evaluate
a variety of ideas and issues in religion and culture, faith and practice. This program is open by invitation only to students in the Grades 7 & 8.
Classroom instruction is modeled after the seminar format of the university and requires independent conversation and study. Students are graded pass/fail.
Students who successfully complete the program and maintain honor roll status throughout the 7th and 8th grade are designated "Saint Luke Scholars" and receive special recognition at the commencement exercises in June of each academic year.

FIELD TRIPS
Saint Luke Academy encourages enrichment and application of academic studies through the hands-on/first-person experiences of field trips. Classes visit sites appropriate to their age level and academic disciplines. Typical trips include concerts, theater, galleries, historical sites, farms and museums.
Upper grade children are encouraged to make individual field trips to sites appropriate for collection of primary resources for their annual research paper/project.

Saint Luke Academy students regularly participate in local, regional and national academic competitions with outstanding results.
Winning History
Saint Luke Academy participates annually in the Metro Chicago and the All-Illinois
History Competitions. Students produce history projects that are judged for
historical knowledge, quality of analysis and depth of research. At the All-Illinois
history fair, two entries in each of the four competitive categories advance
to the national history competition.
In the past 12 years, 11 entries from Saint Luke have won the right to represent Illinois in the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C. One of our students won first place in the national competition with a video documentary on the noise controversy at O’Hare airport.
Winning Research
A Saint Luke Academy student was awarded the Illinois Historic Preservation
Agency’s Archival Research Award for the best use of archival sources
in writing a paper entered in the All-Illinois History exposition.
Winning Writing
One of Saint Luke Academy’s students authored two articles published
in the student history journal Illinois History and won the Illinois Historic
Preservation Agency’s Ornsdorf Scholarship for best Lincoln-era research
for an article published in the journal.
Winning Music
For eight of the last nine years, a Saint Luke Academy Band student has won
“Best of Firsts” in the Chicagoland North Lutheran Elementary
Individual Instrumental Competition.
Winning Spelling
A Saint Luke Academy student won local and regional spelling bees to qualify
as one of the Top Spellers in Chicagoland (city and suburban Cook, DeKalb,
DuPage, Grundy/Kendall, Lake McHenry and Will counties). The top 40 spellers
were invited to compete in the Chicago Tribune Spelling Bee for the right
to advance to the National Spelling Bee.
Winning Examinations
For two of the past three years Saint Luke Academy students posted the highest
score on the entrance exam for Gordon Technical High School.

Saint Luke Academy offers an interscholastic athletic program for students in grades 5 through 8. Practice is after school, usually on the Saint Luke campus. Games take place after school (home or away) against opponents in the Northside Lutheran School League. There is no additional cost for participation on athletic teams.
Extracurricular interscholastic sports include: Cross country, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and softball. The children also participate in the Lutheran School League bowling tournament (a small fee is required) in the fall, and the Lutheran School League track meet in the spring.
An introduction to our sports program is now available to our first grade students who are invited to join our cross country, soccer and track teams.
