ACQUIRING NEW LEARNING STRATEGIES and EXPANDING SKILLS

.

  • In Kindergarten our students expand their skills to include a balanced reading instruction incorporating phonemic awareness, phonics, recognition of high frequency words and vocabulary development.
  • Students work on number sense in anticipation of simple number operations.  They explore concepts of time and money and ordinal numbers.  Students practice patterning and sorting and are introduced to the most basic concepts of fractions.
  • Students engage in a variety of learning units that help them to understand the world around them (space, life cycles, community, persons).
  • Learning centers promote learning through discovery. Art, music and drama expand cultural horizons.
  • Children participate in physical education, experience computer technology and enjoy daily outdoor play (weather permitting).
