Floral Design at Saint Luke |

Traditionally, people have used flowers and plant products to celebrate, commemorate, remember and decorate themselves and their surroundings. We respond to the color, shape, texture, and fragrance of plant products. Plants and flowers integrate nature’s abundance in man-made environments. Flowers in the environment are reminders of God’s perfection and of the gifts of creation. Using plants and flowers reflects our appreciation of nature’s beauty. Live product and dried natural material are used in the worship environment regardless of the season. The worship environment is a unified presentation using vestments and furnishings to make us mindful of our relationship to God. Floral design tailored for each season enhances the setting of worship, adds to the festive nature of celebrations and heightens the impact of worship. Saint Luke Church is a unique worship environment. The worship space uses size and scale to communicate the presence of God and our relationship to our Creator. Floral installations must meet the challenge of the special dimensions to avoid becoming mere decorative details. Evergreen, flowering plants, fresh cut flowers, growing plants, dried and harvested plants and vegetables become a functioning part of the worship environment. Liturgical colors identified in plant material (white, red, yellow and purple) deepen the symbolisms of celebrations. Unique installations of flowers intensify the visual impact of festivals during the church year. For example, Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and All Saints are opportunities for major floral installations. For each celebration, the worship environment is transformed with natural and floral materials in order to create symbolic settings.
