Saint Luke Church Chicago: Artists Guild

Artists Guild

The Saint Luke Artists Guild is a group of artists who are committed to producing an annual exhibition of religious art. Each year the guild invites artists from both the Chicago area and around the country to interpret a theme in the medium of their choice. The collection of themed works is displayed during the spring of the gallery season.

Artists wishing to participate in the Guild Exhibit are invited to review the theme and contact the Gallery to receive additional information or submit slides. All media are welcome.

2016 Exhibition Theme

May 22 - June 19, 2016

Behind the altar in Saint Luke church is a row of tall candles atop elongated stands bearing the names of the "Songs of the Church". These are songs sung by our forefathers and mothers in response to God's action in our world. They were recorded by the writers of scripture and coupled with music and meter have become elements in our corporate worship. Together, in sequence, they are a seven-word expression of our salvation history.

Artists are challenged to study the songs represented by these titles and create a visual expression of majesty, joy or sorrow each or a combination of songs represents.
