.L.A. PETERSON "ROSE" Uniform in which to wage peace Based on a traditional Military Jacket, the Wage Peace Series represents those wishing to spend time and money on constructive passions that unite us. Fashion is an everyday expression that can create a powerful statement in a passive way. The modern world needs a uniformed army of peacemakers portraying a single voice, marching towards peace while maintaining creative individuality and originality. This jacket was influenced by the Peace Rose, an original cultivar growing out of another constructive passion and named for a desire for peace. |

MARY HANNA EL KHOURY |
She was seventeen when she was shot in the back as she knelt in Church in her hometown, El Beereh, during the “War of the Mountain” in 1983. Miraculously, Mary was saved and was sent to the Lebanese Hospital in Beit Shabab for rehabilitation. Little did she know that she was to become quadriplegic and never be able to walk or move her body again. One spring day while still in rehabilitation, Mary picked up her sister’s makeup pencil with her frail fingers that were supported by a prosthetic hand device and tried to write her name. When she failed to do so, she began scribbling shapes, trees and old village houses, “scribbles” that were seen by Father Korbaj, the hospital director, who later exhibited them at the Christmas Bazaar. “The fingers that drew these ‘scribbles’ are the fingers of an artist,” he commented. Mary then decided to pursue a goal that later became a life-time career. She took private painting lessons with Tony Khadra and then studied at the Michael Angel Academy in Achrafieh, Beirut. She graduated in 1991, a proud, happy student who became an artist, ready to conquer the world with her beautiful disposition and her newly acquired skills. That was 16 years ago. Mary Khoury today is known among Lebanese artists as a painter with exceptional talents, in spite of her severe disability. This “village artist” paints beautiful memories of her village El Beereh, and lovely scenes of villages in her dear country, Lebanon, that she loves dearly and for which she wishes peace.
