Victorian Floral Metaphor
Silk Flowers
History relates that during the reign of Queen Victoria in England (1837-1901) the language of flowers was as important to people as being "well dressed." The recognizable scent of a particular flower, plant or perhaps a scented handkerchief sent its own unique message. "A Victorian Floral Metaphor" is a metamorphosis from the verbal meaning of Galatians 5:22 to a visual Victorian style of the use of flowers. This Biblical reference, the listing of the nine "fruits" of the Spirit has been translated from verbal fruits into a visual presentation of flowers.

The water of tears is cleansing water. This pastel depicts the washing of Jesus feet by the woman who showed such heartfelt repentance and who was forgiven much.
