SAINT LUKE RECORDER SERIES

Invitation to Recorder Players

As part of the April Program I am planning an "open rehearsal/ performance" of Dies Irae. (see excerpts below). It uses the famous chant theme throughout and explores recorder timbres and textures in many ways.

When I composed the piece, it was my intention to create a massive sound palette for recorders. Therefore, I hope to assemble as many players as the space will hold and invite any and all recorder aficionados to join in.

To make this work for so many instruments, I am quite willing (and happy!) to come to your group’s rehearsals any time before April and coach players on the piece. I may have a quick run-through April 18 (Saturday) at 10 a.m. so we can get acclimated to the acoustics of the Church before the Sunday performance. If that proves difficult, we will also run through things a bit at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the concert itself.

I want this to be an informal, work-in-progress experience for the audience. It won’t be daunting, but it will be fun!

During our open-rehearsal of the piece, I will chat a little with the audience about the challenges and fun of doing something this "big." We will perform the piece in entirety after the audience gets a glimpse of our "process."

Anyone interested in participating should contact me at langfeldjohn@gmail.com (or at 708.344.6793) to reserve a spot on the performers’ list, to get a full score music and to schedule a coaching session as you think best.
