Beloved in Christ,

2 February, 2026

Grace and peace to you on Candlemas-the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord.
On this day, the Church remembers Simeon and Anna, elders who waited with patience and hope, and who recognized in the child Jesus a light given not for themselves alone, but for the whole world. Candlemas is a turning point in the church year; the light of Christmas does not fade, but deepens - becoming a light that clarifies, calls, and challenges.

It is meaningful to greet you for the first time as your pastor on a day shaped by such themes. I come among you grateful, attentive, and hopeful for this community of faith that lives out its calling by attending to beauty, rooted in learning, and living out compassionate justice.

In the weeks ahead, I look forward to listening carefully, learning from the stories that have shaped this community, and discerning together where the Spirit may be leading us now. I also look forward to preaching and presiding on Transfiguration Sunday, February 15. I hope to see you on the first day we will worship together, and after that day, as we share Christ's presence with the world.

May the light we name today steady us, guide us, and give us courage for the work of love set before us. I am filled with joy to be at Saint Luke.

Peace,
Pastor Brian T. Johnson
